Smart Home Installation Cardiff
Smart lighting, heating, and controls wired to keep working when the broadband does not, and set up on your own devices before we go.

Smart Home Installation In Cardiff
Wired To Last, Not Just To Demonstrate
We install smart systems that still work manually, so the switch on the wall turns the light on, whatever the app is doing. Where somebody wants three rooms of smart lighting and nothing else, we will say that is plenty rather than talk you into a hub you will never open.
Our smart home services include:
- Smart lighting and dimming systems
- Smart switch and retrofit module installation
- Smart heating and thermostat installation
- Wiring for hubs, panels and controllers
- Structured data cabling and network points
- Smart door entry and camera integration
- Electric blind and curtain track wiring
- Multi room audio wiring
- Neutral wiring added for smart switches
- LED lighting designed for dimming
We check what your existing wiring can support before you buy anything, which saves a lot of boxes from being returned.
Planning A Smart Home Installation?
One smart switch or a whole house automated, no job is too big or too small for our electricians.
Smart Home Work Across Cardiff & Nearby
Cardiff-based, so if something drops off the network, we can come and look at it properly.
We work across the whole city and out into the Vale.
Older houses often lack a neutral at the switch, which smart modules need, so we check what your wiring can handle before anything gets ordered.

Smart Lighting & The Neutral Problem
Why Older Cardiff Houses Need More Work
Most smart switches need a permanent live and a neutral at the switch position. A great many Cardiff houses do not have one, because for decades lighting was wired with the neutral at the ceiling rose and only switch wires dropping down.
That is the single thing that turns a straightforward smart lighting job into a bigger one. There are three ways round it. Run a neutral to the switch, which is clean but means lifting a floor or chasing a wall. Fit modules at the ceiling rose instead of the switch. Or use a system designed to work without a neutral, which limits your choice of fittings.
We will tell you which of the three applies to your house before you buy anything, because the order people usually do this in is to buy the switches first and then find out.
If you are having a room replastered, or a kitchen refitted, that is the moment to run the cabling. It costs a fraction of doing it afterwards, and the same applies to kitchen work generally.
Smart Heating & Controls
Zoning, Thermostats & Hot Water
Smart heating saves money by letting you heat fewer rooms for less time, not simply by being controllable from the sofa. A single smart thermostat replacing a dial gets you scheduling and remote control. Proper zoning with individual radiator valves is what actually cuts a bill in a house where two rooms are used, and four are not.
We wire and install thermostats, zone valves, wiring centres and hot water control, and we work alongside your heating engineer where the plumbing side needs changing at the same time.
Worth knowing about older Cardiff housing. Solid walls and single glazing change how a room holds heat, so a schedule that works in a new build near the Bay will underheat a Victorian front room in Roath. We set the initial schedule with that in mind rather than leaving factory defaults.
Where the existing wiring centre or supply is not up to it, that gets sorted first, sometimes alongside a board upgrade.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our Smart Home FAQs
Will my smart lights still work if the internet goes down?
They should, and we install them so they do. The switch on the wall still operates the light. What you lose without internet is remote control and scheduling, not the lighting itself.
Why do I need a neutral at the switch?
Most smart switches need one to power themselves. Plenty of Cardiff houses were wired with the neutral at the ceiling rose only, so we check before you buy anything.
Can you install kit I have already bought?
Usually, and we are happy to. If what you have bought will not work with your existing wiring, we will tell you why and what the options are, rather than fitting it badly.
Is smart heating actually worth it?
It is where you have rooms you do not use, because zoning lets you stop heating them. A single smart thermostat gives you control and scheduling but saves less than proper zoning.
