PAT Testing In Cardiff

Tested, Labelled & On A Register

We test around your working day so a workshop or an office is not standing idle, and you get a register listing every item, its ID, the result and the date. That register is what makes next year quick, because you already know what you have and where it is.

Our PAT testing services include:

  • Office and commercial PAT testing
  • Workshop and industrial equipment testing
  • Landlord and rented property appliance testing
  • HMO and student let testing
  • School, nursery and charity premises
  • Class I and Class II appliance testing
  • Extension lead and IEC lead testing
  • Asset registers and labelling
  • On the spot lead and plug repairs
  • Combined visits with fixed wire testing

Failed items get labelled and taken out of use, and we tell you whether repair or replacement makes more sense.

Need PAT Testing At Your Premises?

Ten items in a rented flat or several hundred across a site, no job is too big or too small for our electricians.

PAT Testing Across Cardiff & Nearby

Cardiff based, so we can test out of hours and group several of your properties into the same week.

We test premises across the whole city and out into the Vale.

Furnished lets and shared houses make up a large part of it, and we group them across a portfolio so it’s one visit rather than several.

PAT Testing For Employers

Meeting Your Duty Without Overtesting

The duty on an employer is to keep electrical equipment in a safe condition. Nothing in the regulations says every kettle gets a sticker every twelve months, and premises often spend money testing things that barely need looking at while missing the items that do.

What matters is risk. A drill on a building site, an extension lead trailing across a workshop floor and a heat gun get hard use and need testing often. A desktop monitor that has not moved in four years does not. We set the intervals accordingly and put the reasoning in writing so you can show why.

The formal inspection is only part of it. A great many faults we find are visible, a cracked plug, a squashed lead, a repair done with tape, and those are found by looking rather than by the tester.

Where an item fails, we tell you whether it is worth repairing or replacing, and we can repair leads and plugs on the spot rather than condemning something over a £2 part.

PAT Testing For Landlords

Furnished Lets, HMOs & Student Housing

If you let a property furnished, the appliances you supplied are your responsibility. Washing machines, fridges, kettles, microwaves, lamps and any extension leads left in the property all come under it.

In shared housing, the risk is higher and so is the scrutiny. Cardiff has a lot of student and multi-occupancy property through Cathays, Roath and Grangetown, and tenant-supplied kit tends to accumulate. We test what you supplied, note what we found that you did not, and flag anything that ought to come out.

Testing between tenancies is the sensible point in the year, and we can line it up with the 5-yearly EICR and any alarm work, so the property is only visited once.

You get a register per property, which makes the next inspection and any dispute with a tenant a great deal simpler to deal with.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our PAT Testing FAQs

Is PAT testing a legal requirement?

Testing itself is not, but keeping electrical equipment safe is. PAT testing is how employers and landlords demonstrate they have met that duty if anybody asks.

How often does equipment need testing?

It depends on use rather than the calendar. Site tools and trailing leads need it far more often than a monitor that never moves. We set intervals by risk and put the reasoning in writing.

What does PAT testing cost?

It depends on the number of items, how spread out they are and whether we can work uninterrupted. A single flat and a multi floor office are very different jobs.

What happens if something fails?

It gets labelled and taken out of use, and we tell you whether repair or replacement makes sense. Leads and plugs we can often repair on the spot.
