Garden Electrics & Outdoor Lighting Cardiff
Outdoor sockets, garden lighting and supplies to garden rooms, installed to get through Welsh winters rather than summer.

Garden Electrics In Cardiff
Armoured, Rated And Protected Properly
We install outdoor work with armoured cable at the right depth and fittings rated for where they are genuinely going, which is why we are usually replacing somebody else’s rather than repairing our own. Everything outside goes on RCD protection, and garden circuits get their own so a wet night does not take out the house.
Our garden electrical services include:
- Outdoor socket installation
- Garden and pathway lighting
- Supplies to sheds, garages and workshops
- Garden office and garden room power
- Armoured cable installation and burial
- Decking, patio and step lighting
- Pond, water feature and hot tub supplies
- Security and sensor lighting
- Outdoor fault finding and repairs
- Sub boards for outbuildings
All of it is tested, certificated and notified under Part P where the work requires it.
Planning Power Or Lighting In The Garden?
One outdoor socket or a full garden office supply, no job is too big or too small for our electricians.
Garden Electrics Across Cardiff & Nearby
Cardiff based, so if an outside circuit trips after heavy rain we can come and find out why.
We work on gardens across the whole city and out into the Vale.
The cable route decides most of the job, and a terrace with rear lane access is a very different proposition from a long detached garden.

Garden Offices & Outbuildings
A Proper Supply, Not An Extension Lead
A garden office running a couple of monitors, a heater in winter and maybe a kettle needs a real supply. Running it off an extension lead through a window is the arrangement we get called out to replace most often, usually after something has tripped repeatedly or the lead has been damaged.
The proper job is armoured cable from the house, buried at the right depth on the correct route, into a small consumer unit in the building. That gives you sockets, lighting and heating on separate protected circuits, and it means a fault in the office does not take out the house.
Sizing matters. A heater and a kettle together draw a lot more than people expect, and undersized cable that copes in April struggles in January. We work out the load with you before pricing rather than assuming.
Where the existing board has no spare capacity the supply has to start there, sometimes with a board upgrade first.
Outdoor Lighting Design
Lighting A Garden Without Floodlighting It
The mistake with garden lighting is treating it like security lighting. One bright floodlight over a patio flattens everything and annoys the neighbours. Several small low-level fittings picking out a path, a tree and a wall do far more with less light.
We plan it in layers. Low level lighting on paths and steps for getting about safely, uplighting on planting or brickwork for the look of it, and separate switched security lighting on a sensor for when something actually needs lighting up.
Fittings have to be rated for where they go. A wall light under a deep porch is in a very different position from a spike light sitting in a border that floods every winter, and using the same fitting for both is why one of them fails.
All of it goes on RCD protection, and we usually put garden circuits on their own separate protection so a wet night does not trip the whole house.
Frequently Asked Questions
Our Garden Electrics FAQs
Can I run a garden office off an extension lead?
You should not, and it is the arrangement we most often replace. A garden building needs armoured cable and its own protected circuits, so a fault out there does not affect the house.
Why do my garden lights trip after rain?
Moisture getting into a fitting or a joint, which is the classic intermittent outdoor fault. It behaves perfectly in a dry week, which is why it needs testing while it is happening.
Does outdoor electrical work need certifying?
New outdoor circuits are notifiable under Part P, so yes. We test, certify, and notify the work rather than leaving that with you.
How deep does cable need to be buried?
Deep enough to be clear of normal digging and protected on the route, which depends on the ground and what is above it. We use armoured cable and mark the route.
