Extractor Fan Installation In Cardiff

Sized, Sited And Ducted To Work

Most fans we are called to have been fitted with flexible hose sagging across a loft, and no replacement unit fixes a duct that is kinked or venting into the roof space. We use rigid ducting on the shortest sensible run to a proper outside terminal, and size the fan to the room instead of to the hole in the ceiling.

Our extractor fan services include:

  • Bathroom extractor fan installation
  • Fan replacement and upgrades
  • Inline and centrifugal fans for long duct runs
  • Humidistat and timer fan installation
  • Ceiling, wall and window mounted fans
  • New ducting and external terminals
  • Fans for bathrooms with no window
  • Kitchen and utility extraction
  • Fan repairs and fault finding
  • Fitted with wider bathroom electrical work

Everything is installed to the zone requirements for the room and tested on completion.

Need An Extractor Fan Fitted Or Replaced?

One fan swap or extraction across a whole property, no job is too big or too small for our electricians.

Extractor Fan Work Across Cardiff & Nearby

Cardiff based, so if a fan stops working after we fit it we come back and look at it.

We fit and repair fans across the whole city and out into the Vale.

Internal bathrooms with no window are where most of this work is, because the fan is the only ventilation the room has.

Why Bathroom Fans Fail

Ducting, Sizing And Where It Vents

Four things account for nearly every fan that does not work. The first is ducting. Flexible hose sagging across a loft, full of bends, ending in a loose terminal or worse just pushed under a tile, will strangle the airflow whatever the fan is rated at. Rigid duct on the shortest run fixes more bathrooms than a new fan does.

The second is sizing. A basic axial fan is designed to push air a very short distance. Where the run to an outside wall is long, an inline or centrifugal fan is the correct answer and an axial one will never manage it.

The third is run time. Steam does not clear in the thirty seconds somebody is in the room. A timer or humidistat that keeps it running after the light goes off is what actually dries the room out.

The fourth is make up air. A fan cannot extract from a sealed room, so a small gap under the door matters more than people expect.

Condensation, Damp & Mould

Older Cardiff Bathrooms And Internal Rooms

Recurring black mould in a bathroom is a ventilation problem far more often than a building fault. Warm wet air has to go somewhere, and if it is not going outside it condenses on the coldest surface in the room, which in an older Cardiff terrace is usually an external wall or a window reveal.

Internal bathrooms are the hardest case. Rear extensions and flat conversions across Canton, Roath and Grangetown frequently have a bathroom with no window at all, which means the fan is the only ventilation the room has. Those need a proper extract rate and run on time rather than the cheapest unit that fits the hole.

Building regulations set minimum extract rates for bathrooms and require ventilation in a room with no openable window, which is worth knowing if you are letting the property.

If mould keeps returning after a fan has been fitted, the ducting is the first place we look rather than the second.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Extractor Fan FAQs

Why does my bathroom still steam up with a fan fitted?

Usually the ducting rather than the fan. Flexible hose with bends, or a duct venting into the loft, strangles the airflow whatever the fan is rated at.

Does a bathroom with no window need a fan?

Yes. Building regulations require mechanical ventilation in a bathroom with no openable window, and it is the only ventilation the room has.

Should I get a timer or a humidistat fan?

A timer is fine in most bathrooms and runs on after the light goes off. A humidistat suits rooms used at unpredictable times, because it responds to moisture rather than the switch.

Can a fan be fitted where there is no existing one?

Yes. It needs a supply and a route to an outside terminal, and the position has to respect the bathroom zones. We survey both before quoting.
